OK, it’s not real estate, but for a little variety I will be giving a talk on January 10th, 2025 on the 210th anniversary (plus one day) of the Battle of New Orleans, which is one of the more interesting and surprising-in-its-result battles in world history. It will be at Hesse Park in RPV. This is where Jackson earned the nickname “Old Hickory”, the Kentucky Rifle demonstrated its superiority to the smoothbore musket, and where hubris met its match.
“In 1814 we took a little trip, along with Col Jackson down the mighty Mississip . . .” I love battles where the underdog wins. On the 210th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, I will be giving a talk on the true story of how that happened. The USA, of course, was the 2-1 underdog, but was victorious due to careful planning, marksmanship, and even the assistance of pirates, proving that just because you fought Napoleon, it doesn’t mean you can defeat the USA. So come on by; you can then amaze your friends with subtle references to the Rodriguez Canal and Jean Lafitte!
